Just a sketch once again. I´ll do some illustrations of Norbert and his sheep friends following a little story I created for him, so I´ve got some proof that I can illustrate a whole children´s book.
Also I´m proud to say that I finished a 30 page coloring book for children the other day.

This weeks topic on Illustration Friday is "Mesmerize" and I used the chance to do an illustration that´s been flying around in my head for some time. It´s based on a scene in Raymond Chandlers "The big sleep" (1939) where this young rich lady is high on drugs, absent-minded and posed on a chair for photographs. Well, it´s been a while. I´m a busy bee at the moment and didn´t really do much personal work but this one I wanted to share, as I´m thinking about making a series of pictures with this little guy. I just decided to call him Norbert. He´s based on a running gag by my Mr. called "city wolf". We goofed around with how he could look and what he might do and then we ended up with him in a very little car roaming the streets at night on the hunt for crime. So I made this little sketch of him:

IF: Midsummer night

I´m sorry, but the first thing that came to my mind when reading this weeks topic was the swedish company with four big letters. They´re having their midsommar sale ads running in TV at the moment and somehow that influenced me. Considering that I know nothing about midsummer traditions and even less about swedish midsommar (except that I can get a chair for half the money!) I asked wikipedia and there it was: traditional meals for midsommar. Yippie! I´ve wanted to do a food illustration for some time. And I even could try some hand written type.
What we have here is the following: young potatoes, sour cream (gräddfil), schnaps, cheese, crispbread, herring, chives, strawberries with whipped cream. Doesn´t sound too bad, huh?

Just a little colour sketch. As a kid I had a similar boat including a remote control. I´ll have to check if it still exists somewhere...
I´m rather busy doing a bigger illustration project (colouring book, yay!) at the moment, so there won´t be much updating for a few more weeks.

I´ve been horribly lazy when it comes to personal illustrations over the last weeks. But today I present you:
Judge Hermann van Bock. It´s a sunny summer day of the year 1687 and he is on his way to court on his trustworthy comrade Walter (that´s her name, really!). He loves to take the route along the sea and hear the seagulls sing their lovely songs (his taste is a bit special) in the morning.

The german name for the Harlequin duck is Collar duck. Which is where this lovely baroque collar comes in. Apart from that this special duck has nothing to do with Histrionicus histrionicus.

Well, sorta. I finished my bachelor thesis in late december and I´m quite pleased. It´s a collection of 26 strange and rare animals, one for every letter of the alphabet.It contains anteaters, aardvarks, aye-ayes, cookie-cutter sharks, ghost fish, babirusas etc. It´s supposed to give children an idea of how great biodiversity really is and that an animal doesn´t have to be cute to be cool. I also planned a website, but that´s all theory so far.
